Lise Lindstrom, Elza van den Heever & Nina Stemme Lead Metropolitan Opera’s ‘Die Frau ohne Schatten’

The Metropolitan Opera is set to revive Strauss’s “Die Frau ohne Schatten.”

The production by Herbert Wernicke, which premiered on Dec. 13, 2001, and was last revived in 2013, will star soprano Elza van den Heever in her Met role debut as the Empress, soprano Lise Lindstrom in her Met role debut as the Dyer’s Wife, and soprano Nina Stemme in her role debut as the Nurse.

They will be joined by tenor Russell Thomas in his role debut as the Emperor and baritone Michael Volle in his Met role debut as Barak. Bass-baritone Ryan Speedo Green rounded out the cast in his role debut as the Spirit Messenger.

Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts the six performances.

“Die Frau ohne Schatten” will be performed from Nov. 29 through Dec. 19 with the Nov. 29 and Dec. 7 performances broadcast live on Metropolitan Opera Radio on the SiriusXM app.
