Lise Davidsen & Oksana Volkova Lead New CD/DVD Releases

This week audiences can hear the latest album by one of the most exciting artists in opera right now as well as a new exciting works. There are also rarely performed works, a DVD of a recent world premiere and a new album by a famed mezzo.

Let’s take a look.

Beethoven Wagner Verdi 

Lise Davidsen releases her second album dedicated to Beethoven, Wagner, and Verdi. For the new album, the soprano features Verdiarias from “Fidelio, “La forza del destino,” Cherubini’s “Medea,” “Cavalleria rusticana,” “Otello,” and the Wesendonck Lieder. Davidsen is accompanied by the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Sir Mark Elder.

Les Boréades

Erato releases this rarely performed work by Rameau featuring Emmanuelle Haïm conducting the Concert d’Astrée. The production by Barrie Kosky features soloists Hélène Guilmette, Emmanuelle De Negri, Mathias Vidal, Sébastien Droy, Edwin Crossley-Mercer, Christopher Purves, and Yoann Dubruque.

Hear Her Song 

The Canales Project will release an album that amplifies women’s voices and showcase a number of genres and nations. The album features 11 songs by such composers as Faye Chiao, Dina Fanai, Rosabella Gregory, Gwyneth Herbert, Eliza Hull, Maria Landi, Helen Park, Hyeyoung Kim, Janet Noh, Sophia Lanuza, and Katy Pfaffl.

The Travelled Road

Ravello Records will release the new album featuring works by Evan Mack. The album will feature new compositions including “A Little More Perfect” “Three Reflections of Sister Dorothy,” and “The Road and the End.” The album will feature Megan Marino, pianist John Arida and celebrated cellist Jameson Platte.

Poison d’Amour 

Delos releases Oksana Volkova an album with French arias, Gounod, Saint-Saëns, Thomas, Massenet, and Bizet, Italian arias by Mascagni and Cilea, and Russian arias by Rimsky-Korsakov, Mussorgsky, and Tchaikovsky. The album also includes an aria from “The Gray Legend by Belarusan” by Dmitri Smolski. Constantine Orbelian leads his Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra.

And Love Said 

Soprano Jodie Devos explores songs from Belgium, England, and France in her new album. Alpha releases the album which includes music by Frank Bridge, Britten, Quilter, Vaughan Williams, Poldowski, Milhaud, Patrick Leterme, and Freddy Mercury. Nicolas Krüger accompanies on piano.

Heggie/McNally: Great Scott

Erato releases the Dallas Opera’s production of “Great Scott” on DVD. The production, which was previously released on CD, stars Ailyn Perez, Frederica Von Stade, Nathan Gunn, and Anthony Roth Costanzo. Patrick Summers conducts the production.

Con Mucho Corazón

Jorge Lagunes releases his latest album that is a fusion of an acclaimed Mexican opera singer and the collaboration of a Spanish flamenco guitarist, a Mexican cellist, and a Russian pianist, making a tribute to some of the most important Mexican female composers (Teresa Lara, Consuelo Velázquez, María Grever, among others). The recording took place in Madrid during confinement.
