Lionel Bringuier Named Music Director of Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège

French conductor Lionel Bringuier has been appointed the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège’s new Music Director.

Bringuier will succeed Gergely Madaras, who will end his mandate at the end of the 2024-25 season.

Madaras however, will become the Guest Chief Conductor starting from the 2026-2027 season.

Bringuier trained at the Los Angeles Philharmonic and has conducted for 20 years on the biggest stages in the world. He will become the 10th musical director of the OPRL and has already had three collaborations with the OPRL since his debut at the Salle Philharmonique in 2021. Bringuier won the Besançon International Competition for Young Conductors at 19  and has been invited to conduct the orchestras in Philadelphia, Boston, Montreal, New York, Vienna, Berlin, Amsterdam, the BBC, the Radio France Philharmonic, and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestras.
