Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts to Reimagine Amsterdam Avenue Side of Campus

By Nicolas Quiroga

Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts (LCPA) is formulating an organizational framework to collaborate with local communities and segments of New York City.

The center envisions a significant transformation of its Amsterdam Avenue Campus to enhance its inclusivity. The proposed initiative entails merging the free arts program with civic service. LCPA has scheduled a diverse range of events at venues like Alice Tully Hall and the newly renovated David Geffen Hall. The institution plans to extend its reach throughout the city by hosting various activities such as blood drives, food banks, graduations, and naturalization ceremonies.

“The Lincoln Center campus is iconic, and one of the jewels of New York City. Just as we have enhanced our programming by making it more accessible to everyone, this process will engage the community on envisioning how we can create a beautiful and architectural welcome to our neighbors to the west, assuring that the campus beckons to everyone to come enjoy our offerings,” said Katherine Farley, Chair of the Board of Directors of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, in an official press statement.

LCPA has outlined several objectives, including serving the residents of Amsterdam Houses and Addition campuses of the New York Housing Authority, as well as the students of La Guardia High School of Music and Performing Arts. Additionally, the organization aspires to create a park with artistic and community-focused goals, foster close collaboration with neighboring entities and partners, implement a comprehensive and strategic community engagement plan, facilitate a variety of public events, and enhance infrastructure by installing heating and cooling systems, as well as public restrooms. LCPA is actively encouraging New Yorkers to actively participate in the program.

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation will be a partner in this initiative.
