
Light Opera of New Jersey Announces Inaugural Youth Ensemble Concert
By David SalazarLight Opera of New Jersey will present the inaugural LONJ Youth Ensemble Concert on Oct. 10 at 2 p.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
The concert, which will be directed by Susan Speidel, LONJ’s Shari Loe Youth in Arts Director, will feature 18 young vocalists performing a program of arias, art songs and musical theater selections.
The members of the inaugural ensemble are Averie Brosnan, Lillian DeGroat, Evie Eggers, Kathryn Giles, Emma Jerome, Charvi Kendule, Sid Kamat, Sabrina Kossup, Elizabeth Larson, Grace Menjivar, Leena Rao, Isabelle Schleicher, Luke Schnaudt, Emi Simonds, Audrey Sussman, Noah Travaille, Logan Twisler and Reyna Vesavada.
The LONJ Youth Ensemble is a new program designed to provide training and performance opportunities for young singers ages 13 to 20. Participants were selected through an audition process in June and took part in intensive workshops in August led by music theater professionals. The workshops included instruction in acting, vocal production, audition preparation and music theory. Following the October concert, members of the ensemble will continue their performance experience through a series of appearances at nursing homes and assisted-living facilities.
