Levent Bakirci To Replace Mariusz Kwiecien In Japan

By Francisco Salazar
Levent Bakirci is set to replace Mariusz Kwiecien at the Ozawa Festival.
The company announced that due to a knee injury Kwiecien would not be performing. The company stated that Kwiecien sustained an injury to his knee on July 5, 2019 while performing in the Mozart opera “Le Nozze di Figaro” at Bayerische Staatsoper. “He underwent surgery on July 16, but has been diagnosed as requiring a few weeks to recuperate, rendering it impossible for him to come to Japan for OMF on August 7 as scheduled and to participate in the rehearsals and performances.”
As a result Turkish baritone Levent Bakirci will sing in place of Kwiecien.
Bakirci is a well-regarded baritone who has performed at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Théâtre du Capitole Toulouse, Teatro Municipal Santiago Chile, Festival Verdi Parma, Teatro Verdi Trieste, Teatr Wielki, Staatstheater Nürnberg, and Oper Stuttgart.
Bakirci joins a cast Anna Nechaeva, Paolo Fanale, and Lindsay Ammann. Performances are scheduled for August 20 through 24, 2019.
