Les Machinchouettes has released the operatic short film, “Hitzli Putzli,” composed and directed by Polish creator Krzysztof Żelichowski, on YouTube.

The EU-sponsored international co-production, released in mid-March 2026, brings together Polish and Italian artists in an innovative cinematic approach to contemporary opera.

The story, which centers two young people meet on a popular dating app and form an unexpected connection while exploring the city of Rome at night, stars soprano Marta Pacifici and tenor Michele Gianquinto.

Filmmaker Marcin Rutkowski collaborated with Żelichowski on shooting and editing.

The production is presented by Żelichowski’s Polish non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting contemporary opera, which has described the film as a prelude to more ambitious cinematic opera projects in the future.

“Our organisation aims to create more cinematic operas in the future and explore the possibilities of such from of operatic presentation even deeper. One can think of this film as of a prelude to even more ambitious projects in such vein,” said Konstancja Sułkowska, one of the associates on the project.
