Leonardo Capalbo, Joyce El-Khoury & Massimo Giordano Lead Opéra national du Rhin’s 2020-21 Season.

The Opéra national du Rhin has announced its 2020-21 season.

The company, in Strasbourg, France, is set to include a number of new productions and recitals. Here is a look:

Opera 

“Solveig,” a symphonic Passion based on the music of Edvard Grieg and with a libretto by Karl Ove Knausgård gets a new production by Calixto Bieto. Mari Eriksmoen stars in the production with Eivind Gullberg Jensen conducting.

Performance Dates: Sept. 19-23, 2020

Massimo Giordano, Katarina Bradić, and Jean-Sébastien Bou star in Saint-Saens’ “Samson et Dalilah.” The new production by Marie-Eve Signeyrole is conducted by Ariane Matiakh.

Performance Dates: Oct. 16-Nov. 8, 2020

Anaïk Morel and Lenneke Ruiten headline Humperdinck’s “Hansel and Gretel” in a new production by Pierre-Emmanuel Rousseau. The cast also includes Markus Marquardt, Irmgard Vilsmaier, Spencer Lang, and Helène Carpentier with Marko Letonja conducting. This version will be performed in German.

Performance Dates: Dec. 9, 2020-Jan. 10, 2021

Humperdinck’s “Gretel and Hansel” will be performed in French with Elsa Roux-Chamoux and Julie Goussot. The new production will be directed by Jean-Philippe Delavault and will also star Damien Gastl, Eugénie Joneau, Néstor Galván, and Clara Guillon. Vincent Monteil conducts.

Performance Dates: Dec. 12, 2020-Jan. 24, 2021

Toby Spence, Scott Hendricks, Jake Arditti, and Peter Kirk star in Britten’s “Death in Venice.” The new production is directed by Jean-Philippe Clarac and Olivier Deloeuil and is conducted by Jacques Lacombe.

Performance Dates: Feb. 12-March 2, 2021

Zad Moultaka and Pierre Audi’s “Haemon” makes its world premiere with Moultaka directing. Bassem Hakiki conducts an all star cast that includes Raffaele Pe, Tassis Christoyannis, Judith Fa, and Béatrice Uria Monzon.

Performance Dates: March 20-April 11, 2021

Elsa Roux-Chamoux, Julie Goussot, Damian Arnold, and Ionel Dragos star in Rossini’s “Cenerentola” in a new production by Sandra Pocceschi and Giacomo Strada.

Performance Dates: April 7-May 29, 2021

Christopher Moulds conducts a new production of Handel’s “Alcina” by Serena Sinigaglia. Ana Durlovski takes on the title role alongside Hélène Guilmette, Diana Haller, Marina Viotti, Tristan Blanchet, Arnaud Richard, and Clara Guillon.

Performance Dates: May 21-June 15, 2021

Brigitta Kele stars in the title role of Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly” with Leonardo Capalbo as Pinkerton, Marie Karall as Suzuki, and Tassis Christoyannis as Sharpless. Giuliano Carella conducts the production with Mariano Pensotti directing.

Recitals 

Pavol Breslik and Amir Katz perform an evening of music by Dvořák, Schubert, Liszt, and Schneider.

Performance Date: Oct. 21, 2020

Eva-Maria Westbroek and Julius Drake music by Barber, Weill, Turina, Guridi, and Guastavino.

Performance Date: Jan. 15, 2021

Karine Deshayes, Philippe Cassard, and Philippe Berrod perform a recital of music by Spohr, Schubert, Ravel, and Duparc.

Performance Date: Feb. 17, 2021

Joyce El-Khoury and Serouj Kradjian sing a recital.

Performance Dates: March 26, 2021

Matthias Goerne and Alexander Schmalcz  perform Wolf, Pfitzner, Wagner, and R. Strauss.

Performance Date: May 28, 2021

Mark Padmore and Till Fellner perform an evening of Schubert and Schumann.

Performance Date: June 23, 2021
