Leonardo Capalbo, Anush Hovhannisyan & Theo Hoffman Lead Israeli Opera’s 2021-22 Season

The Israeli Opera has announced its 2021-22 season featuring eight productions.

Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” opens the season with Alla Vasilevitsky, Yael Levita, Alasdair Kent, Aaron Blake, Theo Hoffman, Oded Reich, and Beate Ritter. Nimrod David Pfeffer conducts.

Performance Dates: Nov. 4-15, 2021

Ira Bertman, Alla Vasilevitsky, Andrei Bondarenko, and Kostas Smorginas lead Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin” with Dan Ettinger conducting. The production by Jean-Claude Auvray also stars Alexei Dolgov, Thomas Atkins, Rachel Frenkel, Shay Bloch, Vladimir Braun, and Andrey Valentiny.

Performance Dates: Dec. 28, 2021-Jan. 28, 2022

Verdi’s “La Traviata” will be conducted by Dan Ettinger and directed by Alessandro Talevi. The cast will include Anush Hovhannisyan, Hila Baggio, Leonardo Capalbo, Joseph Dennis, Sebastian Catana, and Levente Molnar.

Performance Dates: Jan. 27-Feb. 12, 2022

Daniele Callegari conducts Leoncavallo’s “Pagliacci” with Luis Chapa leading the cast. Inbal Pinto directs the production which also stars Alla Vasilevitsky, Elisa Cho, Ionut Pascu, Hansung Yoo, Dmytro Kalmuchyn, Julien Van Mellaerts, Eitan Drori, and William Wallace.

Performance Dates: Feb. 25-March 6, 2022

Theo Hoffman, Oded Reich, Alla Vasilevitsky, Tal Bergman, Daniela Skorka, Shira Patshornik, Cody Quattlebaum, Ross Ramgobin. Anat Czarny, and Tal Ganor lead the cast of Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro.” Michele Gamba conducts the production by David Pountney.

Performance Dates: March 27-April 8, 2022

Ethan Schmeisser conducts Händel’s “Alcina” with Yael Levita, Hila Fahima, Oded Reich, and Eitan Drori. Ido Ricklin conducts.

Performance Dates: May 16-28, 2022

Anna Nechaeva and Monica Zanettin sing the title role of Verdi’s “Aida” with Leonardo Caimi, Viktor Antipenko, Justina Gringyte, Oksana Volkova, Ionut Pascu, David Bizic, Insung Sim, and Joshua Bloom. Giuliano Carella conducts the production by Stathis Livathinos.

Performance Dates: June 24-July 9, 2022

Ethan Schmeisser conducts Hanoch Levin’s “Big Touches” with soloists Ira Bertman, Tom Cohen, Tal Ganor, Sivan Keren, Yael Levita, Noam Heinz Lowenstein, Tamara Navoth, Yair Polishook, Anat Czarny, and Oded Reich.

Performance Dates: July 29-August 8, 2022
