Leo Nucci has canceled performances of “Rigoletto” at the Ópera de Tenerife.

The company announced that Nucci had canceled performances of his signature role due to personal reasons. As a result, Luis Cansino will take over the run, scheduled for November 19 through 23, 2019.

Cansino is a recognized baritone who has performed at the Teatro Maestranza, Teatro Cervantes, Welsh National Opera, and Teatro Real. This season he makes appearances at the Teatro Real and Staatsoper Stuttgart in Verdi’s “La Traviata,” Fundación Arte Lírico, Teatro Cervantes, and Ópera de Oviedo.

Cansino joins a cast that includes Leonor Bonilla as Gilda, Yijie Shi as the Duke of Mantua, Simón Orfila as Sparafucile, Guadalupe Barrientos as Maddalena, and Sophie Burns as Giovanna.

Performances are set to be conducted by Giuseppe Finzi in a production by Mario Pontiggia.
