Leah Hawkins to Headline 2023 Marian Anderson Vocal Award Recital

Leah Hawkins is set to perform in the Marian Anderson Vocal Award Recital at The Kennedy Center on Feb. 12, 2023.

The soprano, who is this year’s recipient of the major honor, will perform music by Hairston, Wagner, Poulenc, Copland, Grant Still, Ashbourne, and the Kennedy Center premiere of Barnes’ “Proverbs.”

Hawkins will be joined by pianist Kevin Miller.

The soprano has performed at such major companies as the Metropolitan Opera, Bayerische Staatsoper, Portland Opera, Tulsa Opera, and more. She recently took on the title role of “Tosca” at Opera Memphis.

Previous recipients of the Marian Anderson Vocal Award include Frederick Ballentine, Will Liverman, Soloman Howard, Ryan Speedo Green, Denyce Graves, Eric Owens, Lawrence Brownlee, J’Nai Bridges, Janai Brugger, and John Holiday, among others.
