Leah Hawkins, Nicole Mitchell Headlines American Opera Project’s February 2022 Slate

The American Opera Project has announced its February 2022 slate which will feature two performances.

First up, audiences will get a chance to see “Tea with Takesha.” The virtual performance kicks off at 3 p.m. ET and will include special guest appearances from contralto Nicole Mitchell and conductor J. David Jackson.

The event will be hosted by American Opera Project’s Director of Development Takesha Meshé Kizart-Thomas.

Streaming Date: Feb. 20, 2022

Next up will be a Black History Month Concert at the Brooklyn Public Library. The showcase will be headlined by soprano Leah Hawkins, who will perform alongside instrumentalists Ashley Home, Claire Chan, William Frampton, and Wayne Smith.

The event will feature the Brooklyn Premiere of the first movement of Nkeiru Okoye’s “We Met at the Symphony.” The performance kicks off at 4 p.m. ET.
