Leah Hawkins, Michelle Johnson, Aaron Blake, John Holiday, Wei Wu Headline Des Moines Metro Opera’s 2022 Season

Des Moines Metro Opera in Iowa has announced its 50th anniversary season.

It kicks off with Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” in a production directed by Suzanne Andrade and Barrie Kosky. The work will star Aaron Blake, Audrey Luna, Andrew Wilkowske, and John Robert Lindsey.

Performance Dates: March 5 & 6, 2022

Next up is “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” in a production by Chas Rader-Shieber. The cast stars John Holiday, Sydney Mancasola, Barnaby Rea, Isaiah Bell, Alexander Birch Elliot, Karim Sulayman, Matt Boehler, Wei Wu, and Corey Trahan.

Performance Dates: July 2 – 23, 2022

The company will then showcase “Porgy and Bess” in a production by Tazewell Thompson. Michael Ellis Ingram conducts a cast that stars Kevin Deas, Michelle Johnson, Leah Hawkins, Norman Garrett, Jermaine Smith, and Simon Estes.

Performance Dates: July 1 – 24, 2022

Kristen Kuster and Mark Campbell’s “A Thousand Acres” will make its world premiere in a production by Kristine McIntyre. David Neely conducts a cast starring Elise Quagliata, Sara Gartland, Grace Kahl, Roger Honeywell, Keith Phares, John Moore, and Wei Wu.

Performance Dates: July 9 – 22, 2022

The season draws to a close with Damien Geter and Lila Palmer’s “American Apollo” with Justin Austin starring. David Neely conducts the new production which will be a company premiere presented in collaboration with Pyramid Theatre Company and the Des Moines Art Center.
