Le Concert de l’Hostel Dieu Blends Musical Eras with ’50/50′ Album

By Logan Martell

On September 2, 2022, Le Concert de l’Hostel Dieu released their new project “50/50,” an album of half Baroque and half contemporary music in French and English, on Aparte Music.

The recording features the world premiere of commissioned works such as David Chalmin’s “Let Me Freeze Again,” inspired by the music of Purcell, as well as STAB choral works by British composer Martyn Harry inspired by the works of Lully. Both composers blend the past with the present, using Baroque instruments with contemporary style and expression.

Mezzo-soprano Axelle Verner features as a soloist, with Music Director Franck-Emmanuel Comte leading Le Concert de l’Hostel Dieu from the organ.

“50/50” is available on Spotify and Apple Music.
