Lawrence Brownlee, Anthony Roth Costanzo, Lauren Snouffer, Mikaela Bennett, Tiffany Townsend & Jonathan Burton Lead Opera Philadelphia’s 2026-27 Season

Opera Philadelphia has announced its 2026-27 season.

Emma Griffin directs the company premiere of Mozart’s “Mitridate, re di Ponto” starring Lawrence Brownlee in the title role, Anthony Roth Costanzo as Farnace, Lauren Snouffer as Aspasia, Meredith Wohlgemuth as Sifare, Nola Richardson as Ismene, Sarah Coit as Arbate, and Minghao Liu as Marzio. Corrado Rovaris conducts.

Performance Dates: Sept. 9 – 13, 2026


Mikhaela Mahony directs the Philadelphia premiere of Courtney Bryan’s “Suddenly Last Summer” with a libretto by Gideon Lester and Daniel Fish, based on the play by Tennessee Williams. Mikaela Bennett stars as Catharine Holly. Nathan Koci conducts.

Performance Dates: Oct. 22 – 25, 2026


Zack Winokur directs the Gershwins’ “Let ‘Em Eat Cake” in one of the first staged productions since its 1933 Broadway debut. Corrado Rovaris conducts the Opera Philadelphia Orchestra, with Elizabeth Braden leading the Opera Philadelphia Chorus.

Performance Dates: Jan. 29 – 31, 2027


Kaneza Schaal directs a new production of Verdi’s “Aida” starring Tiffany Townsend in her role debut in the title role, Jonathan Burton as Radamès, Alfred Walker as Amonasro, Aubrey Odle as Amneris, Patrick Guetti as Ramphis, Katerina Burton as the High Priestess, and Kevin Short as the King of Egypt. Corrado Rovaris conducts.

The company will feature a gala event in partnership with American Friends Service Committee.

Luke Styles and Alan McKendrick’s “Sitcom” will receive its world premiere. The neo-baroque comic chamber opera is structured as four 30-minute episodes following characters Max, Bettina, Joan, and Vendetta. Casting will be announced at a later date.
