Latvian National Opera Announces 2020-21 Season

The Latvian National Opera has announced its 2020-21 season.

Premiere

Liene Kinča, Rodrigo Garulo, and Samsons Izjumovs star in Puccini’s “Tosca” with Mārtiņš Ozoliņš conducting the new production by Dmitry Bertman.

Performance Date: Oct. 4-15, 2020

Stephen Lawless directs a new production of Verdi’s “Simon Boccanegra” with Evija Martinsone, Tatiana Trenogina, Raimonds Bramanis, Mihails Čuļpajevs, Krišjānis Norvelis, Romāns Poļisadovs, Jānis Apeinis, and Rinalds Kandalincevs. Normunds Vaicis conducts.

Performance Dates: Nov. 27 & 29, 2020

Revivals

Verdi’s “La Traviata” returns with Sonora Vaice, Dana Bramane, Julija Vasiljeva, Raimonds Bramanis, Mihails Čuļpajevs, Samsons Izjumovs, Rinalds Kandalincevs, and Armands Siliņš. The work will be conducted by Normunds Vaicis, Patrick Lange, and Mārtiņš Ozoliņš.

Viesturs Jansons, Nauris Puntulis, Ilona Bagele, Andžella Goba, Juris Ādamsons, Rihards Millers, Kristīne Zadovska, Laura Grecka, Inga Šļubovska-Kancēviča, Kristīne Gailīte, Andris Lapiņš, Mihails Čuļpajevs, Andris Kipļuks, Juris Jope, Romāns Poļisadovs, and Krišjānis Norvelis star in “The Birds’ Opera.”

Performance Dates: Sept. 13, 2020

Samsons Izjumovs sings the title role of Verdi’s “Nabucco” with Yulianna Bawarska and Liene Kinča alternating as Abigaille. Mārtiņš Ozoliņš and Gintaras Rinkevičius conduct a cast that also includes Raimonds Bramanis, Andris Ludvigs, Guntars Ruņģis, Kristīne Zadovska, Laura Grecka, George Andguladze, Romāns Poļisadovs, and Krišjānis Norvelis.

Sonora Vaice and Dana Bramane star in Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly” with Rodrigo Garulo, Raimonds Bramanis, Andris Ludvigs, Ilona Bagele, Laura Grecka, Jānis Apeinis, and Armands Siliņš. Mārtiņš Ozoliņš, Péter Halász, Normunds Vaicis, and Alberto Veronesi conduct.

Performance Dates: Sept. 20 & 23, 2020

Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” stars Jānis Apeinis, Liviu Holender, Rihards Millers, Evija Martinsone, Sonora Vaice, Rihards Mačanovskis, Inga Šļubovska-Kancēviča, Julija Vasiljeva, Laura Grecka, and Anastasia Lebedyantseva. Zbigniew Graca and Andris Veismanis conduct.

Tchaikovsky’s “The Queen of Spades” opens the season with Sergey Polyakov, George Oniani, and Andris Ludvigs alternating Herman, Tatiana Trenogina, Vida Miknevičiūtė, and Inna Klochko as Lisa, Ilona Bagele and Andžella Goba as the Countess, Vladislav Sulimsky and Rihards Mačanovskis alternating Tomsky, Jānis Apeinis, and Rinalds Kandalincevs sharing Yelestky, and Zanda Švēde and Laura Grecka as Pauline. Mārtiņš Ozoliņš and Normunds Vaicis alternate at the pit.

Puccini’s “La Bohème” returns to the stage with a cast that includes Artem Safronov, Raimonds Bramanis, Tatiana Trenogina, Evija Martinsone, Laura Teivāne, Marlēna Keine, Inga Šļubovska-Kancēviča, Rinalds Kandalincevs, and Jānis Apeinis. Keri-Lynn Wilson and Mārtiņš Ozoliņš conduct.

Jānis Apeinis, Rihards Mačanovskis, Vida Miknevičiūtė, Perrine Madoeuf, Laura Teivāne, Raimonds Bramanis, Mihails Čuļpajevs, Ilona Bagele, Aira Rūrāne, Kristīne Gailīte, and Evija Martinsone star in Poulenc’s “Dialogues of the Carmelites.” Mārtiņš Ozoliņš and Jānis Liepiņš conduct.

Rihards Mačanovskis and Krišjānis Norvelis sing the title role of Donizetti’s “Don Pasquale” with Jānis Apeinis, Kalvis Kalniņš, Tansel Akzeybek, Mihails Čuļpajevs, Viesturs Jansons, Inga Šļubovska-Kancēviča, Julija Vasiljeva, and Marlēna Keine. Mārtiņš Ozoliņš and Normunds Vaicis conduct.

Performance Dates: Oct. 30 & Nov. 6, 2020

Kalniņš’s “I Played, I Danced” is set to be conducted by Imants Kalniņš, Mārtiņš Ozoliņš, and Andris Veismanis with a cast that includes Andris Ludvigs, Raimonds Bramanis, Juris Jope, Marlēna Keine, Julija Vasiljeva, Viktorija Pakalniece, Laura Teivāne, Jānis Apeinis, Armands Siliņš, Krišjānis Norvelis, Romāns Poļisadovs, Rihards Mačanovskis, Edgars Ošleja, Rinalds Kandalincevs, Irma Pavāre, Ilona Bagele, Kalvis Kalniņš,  and Rinalds Kandalincevs.

Performance Dates: Nov. 4 -14, 2020

Ramona Zaharia, Zanda Švēde, and Oksana Volkova share the title role in Bizet’s “Carmen” with Andris Ludvigs, Dmitry Golovnin, George Oniani, Jānis Apeinis, Rihards Mačanovskis, Laura Teivāne, and Dana Bramane. The masterwork is conducted by Jānis Liepiņš and Normunds Vaicis.

Egils Siliņš and Rihards Mačanovskis alternate the title role in Wagner’s “Der Fliegende Hollander” with Vida Miknevičiūtė, Liine Carlsson, and Aira Rūrāne as Senta. The cast is rounded out by Krišjānis Norvelis, Romāns Poļisadovs, Corby Welch, Michael Siemon, Andris Ludvigs. Mārtiņš Ozoliņš, Jānis Liepiņš, and Normunds Vaicis conduct.

J, Strauss’ “Die Fledermaus” is set to star Juris Jope, Jānis Apeinis, Nauris Puntulis, Sonora Vaice, Margarita Vilsone, Dana Bramane, Mihails Čuļpajevs, Viesturs Jansons, Raimonds Bramanis, Juris Vizbulis, Rihards Mačanovskis, Kalvis Kalniņš, Inga Šļubovska-Kancēviča, Marlēna Keine, and Jolanta Strikaite. Jānis Liepiņš and Normunds Vaicis conduct.

Tadeusz Wojciechowski, Gintaras Rinkevičius, and Mārtiņš Ozoliņš conduct Gounod’s “Faust” which is set to star Sonora Vaice, Perrine Madoeuf, Julija Vasiljeva, Vida Miknevičiūtė, Valentyn Dytiuk, Raimonds Bramanis, Vazgen Gazaryan, Andreas Bauer, Krišjānis Norvelis, Kalvis Kalniņš, Jānis Apeinis, Valdis Jansons, Rihards Mačanovskis, and Laura Grecka.

The company is set to present a double bill of Montemezzi’s “L’Incantesimo” and Leoncavallo’s “Pagliacci” with Jānis Liepiņš and Normunds Vaicis conducting. Montemezzi’s work is set to star Vladislav Sulimsky, Valdis Jansons, Armands Siliņš, Dana Bramane, Sonora Vaice, Tatiana Trenogina, Irakli Kakhidze, Andris Ludvigs, Romāns Poļisadovs, Krišjānis Norvelis, Rihards Millers, and Juris Ādamsons. Leoncavallo’s opera is set to star Sergey Polyakov, George Oniani, Andris Ludvigs, Oļegs Orlovs, Tatiana Trenogina, Dana Bramane, Sonora Vaice, Vladislav Sulimsky, Jānis Apeinis, Armands Siliņš, Valdis Jansons, Kalvis Kalniņš, Rihards Millers, and Rinalds Kandalincevs.

Sandra Janušaite and Yulianna Bawarska share the title role in Puccini’s “Turandot” with Eduardo Aladrén, George Oniani, Kamen Chanev, and Sergey Polyakov alternating as Calaf and Jevgēņija Vukkerte and Dana Bramane as Liu. Gintaras Rinkevičius, Mārtiņš Ozoliņš, and Alberto Veronesi conduct.
