Latest Installment of ‘Wagner Readings’ By Kent Nagano & Concerto Köln Announced

By David Salazar

The Concerto Köln and Kent Nagano will showcase Wagner’s “Wesendonck Leder” in an upcoming concert, as part of a project that aims to present “Der Ring des Nibelungen” from a “historically informed performance practice perspective.”

The concert, set for May 16 in the Cologne Philharmonie, will feature mezzo-soprano Sophie Harmsen as well as a performance of Bruckner’s Symphony No. 3 in D Minor. The composer famously dedicated this very work to Wagner and it is often called the “Wagner Symphony.”

Additionally, Concerto Köln and Nagano will also present workshops that delve deeper into Wagner’s own ideas on his music and investigations on the creation of instruments specific to the famed tetralogy.

“Wagner Readings,” was launched in 2017 and aims to showcase the full cycle from 2021 and onwards.
