Laquita Mitchell, Jorell Williams, Blythe Gaissert Headline Brooklyn Art Song Society’s 2021-22 Season

The Brooklyn Art Song Society has announced its 2021-22 season.

The season kicks off with a performance of selections from Wolf’s “Mörike Liederbuch.” The showcase will feature Amy Owens, Sarah Nelson Craft, Daniel McGrew, and Tyler Duncan. Spencer Myer and Erika Switzer will perform at the piano.

Performance Date: Oct. 1, 2021

Streaming Date: Oct. 18, 2021

“Remembering” will feature Finzi’s “A Young Man’s Exhortation,” Op. 19 and Vaughan Williams’ “Songs of Travel.” The showcase will star Dominic Armstrong, Joshua Conyers, and pianists Mike Brofman and Brent Funderburk.

Performance Date: Nov. 5, 2021

Streaming Date: Nov. 22, 2021

“Mortality Mansions” will feature Cipullo’s “Of a Certain Age” and three works by Garfein including “The Luminous Particular,” “A Tuesday Spot,” and the eponymous “Mortality Mansions;” “The Luminous Particular” and “A Tuesday Spot” will make their world premieres. The showcase will be performed by Laura Strickling, Marnie Breckenridge, and Keith Phares with Mike Brofman and Dimitri Dover at the piano.

Streaming Date: Dec. 20, 2021

Lucy Fitz Gibbon, Kristin Gornstein, Joseph Tancredi, Mario Diaz-Moresco, and pianists Spencer Myer and Ryan McCullough will perform Ned Rorem’s “Evidence of Things Not Seen.”

Performance Date: Jan. 7, 2022

Streaming Date: Jan. 24, 2022

“Testaments” will spotlight songs by Britten, Shostakovich, and Wolf’s “Michelangelo-Lieder.” The showcase will feature Alexandra Nowakowski, Michael Kelly, and Brian Mextorf with an ensemble of musicians including Mike Brofman, Renate Rohlfling, Stanichka Dimitrova, and Sofia Nowik.

Performance Date: Feb. 4, 2022

Streaming Date: Feb. 21, 2022

Audiences will experience music by Berg, Brahms, and Strauss in “Fin-du-Siècle.” The showcase will feature Laquita Mitchell, Tami Petty, and Gregory Feidmann. Mike Brofman, Nana Shi, Miori Sugiyama will accompany at the piano.

Performance Date: March 4, 2022

 Streaming Date: March 21, 2022

The company will also continue with “The Dichter Project: Friedrich Rückert” which will feature music by Brahms, Mahler, Schubert, and Schumann. Performers include Elisabeth Marshall, Blythe Gaissert, and Nils Neubert, Mario Diaz-Moresco.

Performance Date: March 19, 2021 

The company will continue its New Voices Festival with three performances featuring the works of 15 composers.

The first concert will include works by Eve Beglarian, Shawn Jaeger, Missy Mazzoli, Reinaldo Moya, Carlos Simon, Sarah Kirkland Snider, and Nina C. Young as performed by Mary Bonhag, Devony Smith, Kate Maroney, and Jesse Blumberg.

Performance Date: April 1, 2022

 Streaming Date: April 18, 2022

Marco Balter, Lembit Beecher, Amy Beth Kirsten, David Ludwig, Jessica Meyer, Jessie Montgomery, and Jane Sheldon will see their music performed in the second concert of this series. Kristina Bachrach, Sarah Brailey, Charlotte Mundy, Annie Rosen, and Jorell Williams will headline this concert.

Streaming Date: May 23, 2022

The season draws to a close with a performance of Daron Hagen’s “The Art of Song.” The showcase will star Justine Aronson, Gilda Lyons, Meg Bragle, Elisa Sutherland, James Reese, and Steven Eddy.
