Laquita Mitchell Headlines Dayton Opera’s ‘Aida’

Dayton Opera is set to present Verdi’s “Aida” this April.

On April 4 and 6, audiences at the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance in Dayton, Ohio, will take in Verdi’s famed opera in a production by Kathleen Clawson, who has directed 19 productions since 2009, including such world premieres as “Shoes for the Santo Niño” in 2011 and “UnShakeable” in 2016.

Keitaro Harada conducts a cast that includes soprano Laquita Mitchell stars as the title character; tenor Nathan Granner as Radamès; and mezzo-soprano Deborah Nansteel as Amneris. They are joined by baritone Darren Lekeith Drone as Amonasro; bass-baritone Kenneth Kellogg as Ramphis; bass Allen Michael Jones as the King of Egypt; soprano Amber R. Monroe as the High Priestess; and tenor Chaz’men Williams-Ali as the Messenger.

The April 4 showcase kicks off at 7:30 p.m. with the latter show scheduled for a matinee opening at 2:30 p.m. local time.
