Laquita Mitchell, Briana Hunter, Kate Lindsey, Barry Banks, Reginald Smith, Jr. Headline Cincinnati May Festival’s 2023 Season

Cincinnati May Festival has announced its 150th anniversary season.

First up is Vaulted Voices at Hyde Park Community United Methodist Church. Audiences will hear the May Festival Chamber Choir, May Festival Youth Chorus, and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.

Performance Date: April 2, 2023 

The festival proper kicks off with Bach’s “Magnificat,” which is paired with music by James Macmillan and James Lee III. Soloists include Berit Norbakken, Robin Johannsen, Toby Spence, and Christian Immler. Juanjo Mena conducts. The performance also features the Cincinnati Boychoir, the May Festival Chorus, and May Festival Youth Chorus.

Performance Date: May 19, 2023

Marin Alsop will lead “American Voices” which includes Barber’s “Knoxville: Summer of 1915” and other works by Copland and Robert Nathaniel Dett. Soloists include Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha, Laquita Mitchell, Briana Hunter, Rodrick Dixon, and Nicholas Newton.

Performance Date: May 20, 2023 

James Conlon leads a performance of Mozart’s Requiem with such soloists as Joshua Blue, Erica Petrocelli, Kate Lindsey, and Michael Sumuel.

The program also includes a new work by Julia Adolphe.

Performance Date: May 25, 2023

The festival ends with a performance of Mahler’s Eighth Symphony with Juanjo Mena conducting. Soloists include Sarah Wegener, Camilla Tilling, Lauren Snouffer, Kate Lindsey, Briana Hunter, Barry Banks, Reginald Smith, Jr., and José Antonio López.
