By Francisco Salazar

On Sept. 15, the Landestheater Detmold will open a production of Puccini’s “Turandot.”

The production will star Oksana Kramareva as the Ice Princess, Gabriele Mangione in his role debut as Calaf, and Emily Dorn as Liu. The alternate cast includes Maureen Braubec (Turandot), Ji-Woon Kim (Calaf) and Christin Stanowski (Liù).

Swedish conductor Per-Otto Johansson will lead the production which is directed by Holger Pototzki.

In a statement, Johansson said, “Turandot is one of the most challenging works for every conductor. It’s a theatrical mechanism that needs high knowledge by the conductors of every corner of the libretto and the score of course I consider that this Turandot will represent another milestone in my work in Detmold, not only for all its challenges but also because this new production will represent the opening of the celebration of Giacomo Puccini’s centenary here. I, all the work team of the theatre and the artists will give the best to honoree him and his eternal music.”

“Turandot” runs through April 24 2024.
