Lakes Area Music Festival Cancels Summer Program Due to COVID-19
By Francisco SalazarThe Lakes Area Music Festival has canceled its summer program due to two positive COVID-19 cases.
The Minnesota-based festival announced via social media that “two of our artists have tested positive for COVID. Therefore, it is with deep regret and with the safety of our LAMF community in mind that we must cancel all remaining activities of our 2021 season.”
The festival started last week with all of its artists and 98 percent of reported ticket holders vaccinated.
The company added that it had adjusted its rules due to variants and breakthrough cases. It noted that there was a mask requirement for artists and audience, daily rapid testing for all artists, and hiring a full-time COVID compliance officer to navigate, develop, and implement these changes.
The festival was expected to last until August 22 for a total of four weeks that included 11 orchestral performances, nine smaller concerts, and one staged opera.
