LA Opera to Present ‘Noah’s Flood’

By Francisco Salazar

The LA Opera’s professional artists will collaborate with more than 300 volunteer members of the Los Angeles musical community to present two free performances of Benjamin Britten’s “Noah’s Flood” at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels.

The work will be conducted by Music Director James Conlon with performances taking place on May 8 and 9, 2026.

The performance will be possible due to the support from the Dan Murphy Foundation. LA Opera has presented annual community productions at the Cathedral led by Mr. Conlon since 2007 and this year’s presentation of “Noah’s Flood” will be the eighth time that the Britten opera has been produced in that venue.

The work will star singers of all ages and student instrumentalists from the greater Los Angeles community, along with members of the LA Opera Orchestra and professional vocal soloists including baritone Hyungjin Son as Noah, mezzo-soprano Peabody Southwell as Mrs. Noah, and actor Jamieson Price as the Voice of God.

The production is directed by Eli Villanueva.
