LA Opera To Present ‘Great Opera Choruses’ Concert Online This June
By David SalazarThe Los Angeles Opera has announced that it will be presenting its “Great Opera Choruses” concert online on June 7, 2020 at 3 p.m. PDT.
The event will be led by Resident Conductor Grant Gershon. with Jeremy Frank, LA Opera’s Associate Chorus Master, as pianist and music supervisor also featured.
Three famous opera choruses will be spotlighted in the showcase with audiences allowed to participate in a rendition of Verdi’s Anvil Chorus from “Il Trovatore.” The lyrics will be provided onscreen with viewers encouraged to sing-along and “hammer on kitchen pots and pans for the perfect sound effects.”
“The cancellation of the balance of LA Opera’s spring season was devastating, but for ‘Great Opera Choruses,’ there is a silver lining to be found,” said Christopher Koelsch, LA Opera’s Sebastian Paul and Marybelle Musco President and CEO, in a press release. “By moving online, the performance is likely to be seen by more people than would have experienced it in the theater. I’m incredible thankful to the County of Los Angeles and Supervisor Sheila Kuehl, whose support has made it possible for this annual tradition to continue in this new format.”
The performance can be streamed on the company’s Facebook page.
