La Monnaie has announced plans to perform Lodewijk Mortelman’s “De Kinderen der Zee” without chorus.

Per reports, four members of the chorus contracted COVID-19, forcing the company to resume performances without the participation of its choral ensemble. The company confirmed that the two performances of the work slated for Oct. 17 and 20 would resume without chorus.

The opera will be conducted by Alain Altinoglu with Tineke van Ingelgem taking on the role of Stella and Christianne Stotijn as Geertrui. Other cast members include Yves Saelens, Werner van Mechelen, Kris Belligh, and Gilles van der Linden.

The opera is presented in co-production with Bozar Music, and Shelter Prod and Prosper MM Productions. It is also presented with support of Stichting Mortelmans and Studiecentrum Voor Vlaamse Muziek.
