La Monnaie is set to present a new production of Wagner’s “Tristan und Isolde.”

The new interpretation of the famed opera is set to be directed by filmmaker Ralf Pleger and the visual artist Alexander Polzin. Danish soprano Ann Petersen, German soprano Ricarda Merbeth and Dutch soprano Kelly God will alternate in the role.

German bass Franz-Josef Selig will perform the role of King Marke, while Brangäne’s role will be sung by French mezzo-soprano Nora Gubisch, alternating with Swiss mezzo-soprano Ève-Maud Hubeaux.

Bass-baritone Andrew Foster-Williams will debut as Kurwenal and Dutch baritone Wiard Witholt will perform for the first time the character of Melot. English tenor Ed Lyon will debut as Ein Hirt and Ein Steuermann.

The production is set to open on May 2 and runs through May 19, 2019.
