La Monnaie & Théâtre du Capitole Close Until March

By Francisco Salazar

Two theaters have announced they will remain closed for the month of February and into March.

La Monnaie du Mont in Brussels announced that it will remain closed in February and will be streaming a program entirely dedicated to Mozart instead.

Meanwhile, Toulouse’s Théâtre du Capitole in France will remain closed into March. As a result, the company has decided to cancel Debussy’s “Pelléas et Mélisande.”

The news comes as France closed borders to non-European Union countries due to the spread of COVID-19. The country’s top scientific adviser for the pandemic said that France will likely need to move into a third lockdown as soon as February due to the spread of new variants of the virus.

Meanwhile in Belgium, anti-lockdown protests have spread and the country has banned all leisure travel abroad for its citizens until March.
