LA Greek Film Festival to Present ‘Mary, Marianna, Maria, the Unsung Greek Years of Maria Callas’

The LA Greek Film Festival is set to present “Mary, Marianna, Maria, the Unsung Greek Years of Maria Callas” on Wednesday, June 5, 2024.

The event will take place at the Regal LA Live and is the U.S. premiere of the documentary by Michalis Asthnidis and Vasilis Louras. The film is produced by Stella Angeletou and had its premiere in 2023 at the Greek National Opera. Since then, it has been screened at the Berlin Greek Film Festival and the Thessaloniki Documentary Film Festival.

The documentary focuses on Callas’ life between 1945 and 1947 but also after 1957 when she returned to Greece. The film includes interviews with Elvira de Hidalgo, Zoé Vlachopoulou, Marika Papadopoulou, Arda Mantikian, Nikos Petsalis-Diomidis, Leonidas Zoras, Ray Morgan, Ionannis Bastias, Giorgos Koumendakis, Aris Christofellis, Stephan Hoerner, Kiki Morfoniou, Olga Bourlachenko, and Kostis Bastias, among many others.

The documentary is part of the Maria Callas Year at the Greek National Opera, and the UNESCO Maria Callas 2023 anniversary year of the Greek Ministry of Culture.
