The Teatro Comunale di Bologna has announced that it will present its new production of Cilea’s “Adriana Lecouvreur” as a film.

The new production by Rosetta Cucchi will star Kristine Opolais in her role debut and will be aired on Rai 5 on March 11. The production was originally set to premiere in May 2020 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 crisis. Asher Fisch will conduct while Arnalda Canali will direct the film.

Opolais, who is also making her house debut at the Italian theater, will be joined by Luciano Ganci as Maurizio, Romano Dal Zovo as Principe di Bouillon, Nicola Alaimo as Michonnet, and Veronica Simeoni as Principessa di Bouillon.

In a statement superintendent Fulvio Macciardi said, “In this difficult moment for theater, we must find secure solutions and maintain the artistic level.”

“Adriana Lecouvreur” has been performed at the Teatro Comunale by Magda Olivero in 1956, Raina Kabaivanska in 1982, Mirella Freni in 1988 and 1993.
