By Francisco Salazar

Tobias Rempe has been named director of the Berlin Konzerthaus.

Rempe will take over the position in the summer of 2025 and will replace Sebastian Nordmann, who has led the concert hall since 2009.

Rempe began making music at the age of seven and co-founded Ensemble Resonanz.

In a statement, Joe Chialo, Senator for Culture and Social Cohesion noted, “The development of new visions and strategies requires passion, courage and a spirit of innovation. Tobias Rempe impressed us in the selection process. It stands for artistic excellence and strong ideas for the future. I would like to thank Sebastian Nordmann for his excellent work. With Tobias Rempe we are starting a new era for the concert hall.”

Rempe added, “It is an honor and great pleasure to be able to take over the management of the Konzerthaus Berlin. In recent years, the house and the Konzerthausorchester have embarked on a pioneering path of opening up and offering new offerings. I look forward to working with Joana Mallwitz, the orchestra as well as Janina Paul and the entire Konzerthaus team to continue the history of the house and provide new artistic impulses.”

Chief Conductor Joana Mallwitz added, “I am very much looking forward to working together with Tobias Rempe, continuing with the tried and tested but also experimenting with new things in order to continue to enrich the cultural life of Berlin and to place classical music as important to consolidate part of Berlin. Tobias Rempe is a modern-minded concert maker and cultural manager whose artistic approaches fit perfectly with the direction of our house and the Konzerthausorchester.”
