The Konzerthaus Berlin has extended Joana Mallwitz as principal conductor of the Konzerthausorchester until the end of the 2032-33 season.

Mallwitz thus extends her contract with the institution by five years. She began her collaboration with the orchestra during the 2023-24 season.

The renewal comes after three seasons in which the German conductor has helped to strengthen the artistic profile of the Berlin ensemble through programming that combines the great symphonic repertoire with educational initiatives and new concert formats. In addition, the conductor and orchestra have established a new recording collaboration with Deutsche Grammophon.

In a statement Mallwitz said, “I am grateful for the trust placed in me by the musicians of the Konzerthausorchester, our Artistic Director Tobias Rempe, the city of Berlin, and of course, our audience. Especially in times of social challenges, we need places for listening together. And I am overjoyed that the beautiful Konzerthaus am Gendarmenmarkt, with its fantastic Konzerthausorchester and its enthusiastic and warm-hearted audience, will remain my artistic home for years to come.”
