Komische Oper Berlin Announces 2023-24 Season

The Komische Oper Berlin has announced its 2023-24 season.

The season kicks off with Henze’s “Das Floß der Medusa.” Titus Engel conducts a production by Tobias Kratzer. It will star Gloria Rehm and Günter Papendell.

Performance Dates: Sept. 16 – 30, 2023

Next up is the children’s opera “Nils Holgerssons Wundersame Abenteuer” by Elena Kats-Chernin. Erina Yashima conducts a production by Ruth Brauer-Kvam that stars Caspar Krieger, Ferdinand Keller, Karolina Gumos, Susan Zarrabi, and Alma Sadé, among others.

Performance Dates: Nov. 12, 2023 – Jan. 11, 2024

Erina Yashima conducts Suzanne Andrade and Barrie Kosky’s “Die Zauberflöte” with a cast starring Penny Sofroniadou, Nadja Mchantaf, Caspar Singh, Gloria Rehm, Alina Wunderlin, Tijl Faveyts, and Philipp Meierhöfer, among others.

Performance Dates: Nov. 18, 2023 –  March 16, 2024

Tansel Akzeybek, Bryony Dwyer, Hagen Matzeit, Ivan Tursic, and Max Hopp headline “Orpheus in der Unterwelt.” Matthew Toogood conducts the productions by Barrie Kosky.

Performance Dates: Dec. 11 – 29, 2023

Günther Papendell, Ruzan Mantashyan, and Gerard Schneider star in “Eugene Onegin.” James Gaffigan conducts.

Performance Dates: Dec. 15, 2023 – Jan. 21, 2024

Adrien Perruchon conducts Offenbach’s “Die Bandite.”

Performance Dates: Dec. 17 & 30, 2023

Erina Yashima conducts “Così fan tutte” with a cast starring Nadja Mchantaf, Penny Sofroniadou, Susan Zarrabi, Hubert Zapiór, Caspar Singh, Alma Sadé, and Seth Carico.

Performance Dates: Jan. 5 – 26, 2024

Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Der Goldene Hahn” will star Dmitry Ulyanov, Alexander Roslavets, Pavel Valuzhin, Hubert Zapiór, Günther Papendell, Jens Larsen, Margarita Nekrasova, and James Kryshak. Barrie Kosky directs and James Gaffigan conducts.

Performance Dates: Jan. 28 – March 20, 2024

Next up is Händel’s “Hercules.” David Bates conducts a cast starring Brandon Cedel, Paula Murrihy, Penny Sofroniadou, Caspar Singh, and Susan Zarrabi.

Performance Dates: March 3 – April 5, 2024

Günther Papendell, Ambur Braid, and Sung Min Song star in “Der Fliegende Holländer.” James Gaffigan conducts.

Performance Dates: March 15 – April 13, 2024

Adam Benzwi conducts Oscar Straus’ “Eine Frau, Die Weiss, Was Sie Will!”

Performance Dates: March 22 – April 20, 2024

James Gaffigan conducts “Le Nozze di Figaro.” The cast stars Hubert Zapiór, Nadja Mchantaf, Penny Sofroniadou, Tommaso Barea, and Susan Zarrabi.

Performance Dates: April 27 – May 26, 2024

Wittenbrink’s “Pippi Langstrumpf” will star Devi-Ananda Dahm, Maria-Danaé Bansen, Caren van Oijen, Carsten Sabrowski, Philipp Meierhöfer, and Bernd Stempel, among others. Matthew Toogood conducts.

Performance Dates: May 9 – June 2, 2024

Next up is “Messe-Schlager Gisela.” The work will be conducted by Adam Benzwi and stars Gisa Flake, Andreja Schneider, Thorsten Merten, Johannes Dunz, Nico Holonics, and Theo Rüster.

Performance Dates: June 8 – July 7, 2024

Concerts

James Gaffigan conducts a performance featuring music by Wagner, Bach, and Matthus with soprano Alma Sadé.

Performance Dates: April 12, 2024

The Chorus will perform music by Mendelssohn and Schumann.
