The Semperoper Dresden has announced that it will broadcast Mozart and Schikaneder’s popular singspiel “Die Zauberflöte.”

The opera will star Klaus Florian Vogt, René Pape, Julia Muzychenko, Sebastian Wartig, Evelin Novak, Alexandros Stavrakakis, Nikola Hillebrand, Menna Cazel, Michal Doron, Lawson Anderson, Gerald Hupach, Doğukan Kuran, Jürgen Müller, Anna Kudriashova-Stepanets, and Aaron Pegram. Christoph Gedschold conducts the Staatskapelle Dresden in the production by Josef E. Köpplinger.

Semperoper Intendant Peter Theiler pointed out that the broadcast of “Die Zauberflöte” also demonstrates the Semperoper’s ongoing commitment and willingness to work with its artists to realize its ambitions as energetically as possible despite the restrictions imposed by Covid-19.

“We at the Semperoper and the Staatskapelle would like to show you that, despite the cessation of live performances, we remain hugely active in all areas and are working to maintain our usual artistic excellence for the resumption of performances, which is planned for 30 April,” added Theiler.

The project has been made possible by the support of the Semperoper Foundation. ARMIDA FILM GmbH Leipzig will film the production, intended as a contribution to the European opera season “Saison ARTE Opera,” on behalf of the Semperoper Dresden.

The recording will be available for viewing starting April 5, 2021 on the company’s website, as well as arte.tv/opera.
