Kennedy Center Cancels Pride Month Celebration Events

The Kennedy Center has canceled a week’s worth of events celebrating Pride Month.

According to the Associated Press, the events planned for June 5–8, 2025, were quietly canceled or moved to other venues.

As a result, Washington’s Capital Pride Alliance has disassociated itself from the Kennedy Center.

In a statement to the AP, June Crenshaw, deputy director of the alliance, said, “We are a resilient community, and we have found other avenues to celebrate. We are finding another path to the celebration … but the fact that we have to maneuver in this way is disappointing.”

The Kennedy Center’s website still lists Tapestry of Pride on its website but there are no events set to be held at the center.

The Pride cancelations come after the Kennedy Center, under its new leadership, allegedly canceled performances of “Finn” and The Gay Men’s Chorus. On Feb. 12, President Trump took over as Chairman of the Kennedy Center vowing to end the “wokeness” of the shows presented at the center. He has also vowed to ban Pride flags from flying over U.S. embassies and federal buildings.
