Kathleen Ferrier Awards Competition Announces 2021 Semifinalists

The final for the 2021 Kathleen Ferrier Awards Competition has announced its semifinalists, who will compete for the top prize on Nov. 12 and 14.

This year’s contestants include baritone Jack Lee, soprano Sophie Sparrow, counter-tenor Hugh Cutting, mezzo-soprano Helen Charlston, baritone James Atkinson, tenor Magnus Walker, soprano Laura Peresivana, bass-baritone Edward Jowle, soprano Cassandra Wright, and baritone Michael Lafferty. Among the pianists performing in the competition are Ashley Beauchamp, Ilan Kurtser, Lucy Colquhoun, Joseph Beesley, Enuji Han, Ana Manastireanu, Natalie Burch, George Ireland, Harry Rylance, and Chad Vindin.

The awards ceremony is set to take place at Henry Wood Hall in London and will be presented by BBC Radio 3’s own Martin Handley. The jury will be led by Sir Thomas Allen.

The first prize winner takes home £12,500, while the second prize gets £6,000 and the Song Prize champion takes home £5,000. The Accompanist’s Prize comes with a £5,000 reward.

Audiences will be able to stream the performances online for free starting on Dec. 4 and 5 with the semi-final performances set for streaming on Nov. 29, 30 and Dec. 1 and 2.
