Opera Birmingham will present Grigory Frid’s “The Diary of Anne Frank” this April.

The production will star Kathleen Farrar Buccleugh as Anne, with Lester Seigel serving as musical director.

The one-act opera is based on Anne Frank’s world-renowned diary and explores the hopes, fears, and dreams of a young girl living in hiding.

“As we present ‘The Diary of Anne Frank,’ we recognize the importance of sharing this story with our community,” said Lynne Hutton, Managing Director of Opera Birmingham, per an official press release. “Anne’s voice remains a beacon of resilience, and through the universal language of music, we hope to provide a meaningful experience that encourages reflection and dialogue.”

Performances are set for April 5 at 8 p.m. and April 6 at 2:30 p.m. at the Dorothy Jemison Day Theater at ASFA. There will also be several pre-performance and post-show discussions to further explore the opera.
