Sweden’s Göteborg Opera has announced its 2024-25 season.

Katarina Giotas headlines Bizet’s “Carmen” with Joachim Bäckström, Adam Frandsen, Luthando Qave, and Matilda Sterby. Aivis Greters and Martyna Szymcza alternate at the pit.

Michael Weinius and Tomas Lind lead Verdi’s “Otello” with Jens Søndergaard, Adam Frandsen, Julia Sporsén, Carolina Sandgren, and Ann-Kristin Jones. Vincenzo Milletarì conducts the production by Rafael R. Villalobos.

Ida Falk Winland, Ann-Kristin Jones, Adam Frandsen, Davide Giusti, Luthando Qave, and Åke Zetterström star in Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly” with Tobias Ringborg and Martyna Szymczak conducting. Yoshi Oïda directs the production.

Joachim Bäckström, Matilda Sterby, and Åke Zetterström lead Britten’s “Peter Grimes.” Christoph Gedschold conducts the production by Netia Jones.

Mozart’s “Der Schauspieldirektor” and Tchaikovsky’s “Iolanta” will be performed in a double bill. Mozart’s work will star Kerstin Avemo, Mia Karlsson, Tobias Westman, and Sami Yousri while Tchaikovsky’s opera will star Julia Sporsén, Mats Almgren, Luthando Qave, and Adam Frandsen.

In autumn 2024, the Göteborg Opera will celebrate its 30th anniversary. As part of the celebrations, international Swedish singer Katarina Karnéus will tour Västra Götaland with prominent soloists from the Göteborg Opera.
