Karita Mattila Awarded Order of the Lion of Finland

Celebrated Finnish soprano Karita Mattila has been awarded the Order of the Lion of Finland, First Class Commander Badge.

The Order of the Lion of Finland is one of three official orders in Finland, along with the Order of the Cross of Liberty and the Order of the White Rose of Finland.

The famed Finnish soprano has enjoyed a fruitful operatic career, appearing on the most prestigious operatic stages in the world, including the Metropolitan Opera House, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Opéra National de Paris, Teatro Real, Bayerische Staatsoper, Staatsoper unter der Linden, San Francisco Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Opernhaus Zürich, and Finnish National Opera, among others.

Mattila has also taken part in the leading opera festivals, such as BBC Proms, Festival Aix-en-Provence, and Janáček Brno International Festival.

The formal award ceremony will be held on Dec. 6, 2020, which is also Finland’s Independence Day.
