
Karen Slack to Headline Inaugural Festival Mahagony
By David SalazarKaren Slack will headline the inaugural Festival Mahagony at Rutgers University.
The festival, which opens on Feb. 28 and runs through March 2, 2025 will feature four concerts with the opener and closer led by conductor Marlon Daniel.
While the first showcase on Feb. 28 will be an orchestral music-only performance, the final one, “American Portrait” will be headlined by Slack as she takes on Strauss’ “Four Last Songs.” Also on the program are works by Florence Price, William Grant Still, and Dvorák. The concert kicks off at 2 p.m. local time.
Slack is a GRAMMY Award winner who is set o appear with Washington Performing Arts, 92NY, Nashville Symphony, University of Toronto, and Arizona Opera throughout the next few weeks.
