Karen Slack, Michelle Bradley, Catalina Cuervo, Brandie Sutton Headline Fort Worth Opera’s 2022-23 Season

Fort Worth Opera has unveiled its 2022-23 season.

It all kicks off with “Noches de Latinidad: El Fuego de una de Mujer” and “Noches de Zarzuela. The showcases will feature soprano Catalina Cuervo, soprano Adia Evans, tenor Nathaniel Catasca, mezzo-soprano Kaswanna Kanyinda, and baritone Malcolm Payne, Jr. The event is curated by Catalina Cuervo and Eduardo Rojas with Sheran Goodspeed Keyton as the producing director.

Performance Dates: Oct. 21 – 23, 2022

Next up is the world premiere of Joseph Illick and Sheran Goodspeed Keyton’s “Stand Up!” The work will star Adia Evans, Kaswanna Kanyinda, Nathan Catasca, and Malcolm Payne, Jr. Dr. Erica Simmons will direct with Dr. Charlene Lotz will conduct.

Performance Dates: Nov. 11, 2022

Karen Slack and pianist Michelle Cann will headline “Of Thee I Sing! Songs of Love and Justice,” a recital focusing on the music of female composers.

Performance Dates: Nov. 13, 2022

Adia Evans, Kaswanna Kanyinda, Nathaniel Catasca, and Malcolm Payne, Jr. will headline “Amahl and the Night Visitors.”

Performance Dates: Dec. 9-11, 2022 

Damien Geter’s “An African American Requiem” will star Brandie Sutton, Karmesha Peake, Bernard Holcolm, Thomas Cannon, and S. Renee Mitchell.

Performance Dates: Jan. 28, 2023

The company will present “A Night of Black Excellence” as curated by Afton Battle and Alfrelynn Roberts.

Performance Dates: February 2022

There will be a Symposium Series entitled “RACE. EQUITY. ARTS: Addressing Racial Equity in the Arts” with such speakers as Dr. Naomi André, Dr. Antonio C. Cuyler, Quodesia “Quo” Johnson, Kristian Roberts, Jennifer Bowman, and Marcia Sells.

Performance Dates: April 13 & 15, 2023

Michelle Bradley, Ben Gulley, Tichina Vaughn, Reginald Smith, Jr. Kevin Thompson, and Kenneth Kellogg will star in “Aida.” T. Oliver Reid directs while Elaine Rinaldi conducts.

Performance Dates: April 14 & 16, 2023

The season ends with the “Hattie Mae Lesley Resident Artist Showcase” starring Adia Evans, Kaswanna Kanyinda, Nathaniel Catasca, Malcolm Payne, Jr, Katherine Watson, and Andres Felipe Losada Dimate.

Performance Dates: May 2023
