Karah Son,  Edgaras Montvidas, Simon O´Neill & Judit Kutasi Lead Royal Danish Opera’s 2023-24 Season

The Royal Danish Opera has announced its 2023-24 season featuring opera productions and concerts.

Opera

Bassem Samir Akiki conducts “Don Juans Inferno” with Fanny Soyer, Palle Knudsen, Damian Pass, Fredrik Bjellsäter, and Geoffroy Buffière.

Performance Dates: April 20-May 9, 2024

Paolo Carignani conducts Verdi’s “Aida” with Anna Nechaeva, Miriam Clark, Nora Sourouzian, Hovhannes Ayvazyan, Samuele Simoncini, Jens Søndergaard, Musa Ngqungwana, Kyungil Ko, and Daniel Giulianini.

Performance Dates: August 20-Sept. 15, 2023

Giedre Šlekyte conducts Strauss’ “Ariadne auf Naxos” with a cast that includes Ann Petersen, Jamez McCorkle, Serena Sáenz, and Elisabeth Jansson.

Performance Dates: March 13-April 14, 2024

Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly” will be conducted by Paolo Carignani. Karah Son and Gisela Stille take on the title role alongside Hanne Fischer, Hyona Kim, Evan LeRoy Johnson, Thomas Atkins, Palle Knudsen, and Jens Søndergaard.

Performance Dates: Feb. 25-April 30, 2024

Drot og Marsk will be presented with Michael Schønwandt conducting a cast that includes Johan Reuter, Niels Jørgen Riis, Gert Henning-Jensen, Sine Bundgaard, Sofie Elkjær Jensen, Morten Staugaard, Simon Duus, Marcus Dawson, and Anders Kampmann.

Performance Dates: Jan. 14Feb. 2, 2024

Jens Søndergaard, Jacob Skov Andersen, and Sofie Elkjær Jensen lead Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin.” Marie Jacquot conducts the opera which will also star Artyom Wasnetsov, Kyungil Ko, and Astrid Nordstad.

Performance Dates: Oct. 22-Nov. 15, 2023

Handel’s “Saul” will be conducted by Lars Ulrik Mortensen and will star Clara Cecilie Thomsen, Mirjam Mesak, Christopher Purves, Morten Grove Frandsen, Benjamin Hulett, Thomas Cilluffo, and Michael Kristensen.

Performance Dates: March 20-April 5, 2024

Britten’s The Turn of the Screw will be presented in a new production by Anthony Almeida. Robert Houssart conducts the production with a cast that includes Fredrik Bjellsäter, Clara Cecilie Thomsen, Johanne Bock, and Gisela Stille.

Performance Dates: Sept. 17-Oct. 6, 2023

Jetske Mijnssen directs Mozart’s “La Clemenza di Tito” with conductor Julia Jones. The cast includes Edgaras Montvidas, Sine Bundgaard, Emily Pogorelc, Marlene Metzger, Elisabeth Jansson, Angela Brower, and Antti Mähönen.

Performance Dates: Sept. 9-Oct. 8, 2023

Paolo Carignani conducts Wagner’s “Tristan und Isolde” with Sofia Adrian Jupither directing. Simon O´Neill, Elisabet Strid, Stephen Milling, Kyungil Ko, Jens Søndergaard, Niels Jørgen Riis, and Hanne Fischer.

Eivind Gullberg Jensen and Nick Fletcher conduct Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” in Barry Kosky’s production. Jonathan Koppel, Gert Henning-Jensen, Jacob Skov Andersen, Clara Cecilie Thomsen, Louise McClelland Jacobsen, Palle Knudsen, Frederik Rolin, Simon Duus, Fanny Soyer, Michaela Simkova, Morten Staugaard, Nicolai Elsberg, Rainelle Krause, Svetlana Moskalenko, and Fredrik Bjellsäter star.

Performance Dates: Oct. 12, 2023-June 9, 2024

H.C Andersen’s “Ravnen” will be performed.

Performance Dates: Nov. 6-7, 2023

Angelos Samartzis and Zurab Zurabishvili sing the title role of Massenet’s “Werther” with Na’ama Goldman, Marie Seidler, Silvia Micu, Eva Zalenga, Anton Eriksson, and Christian Oldenburg. Christopher Lichtenstein conducts the production by Philipp Kochheim.

Performance Dates: March 4-5, 2024

“Som i himlen” will be conducted by Lars Kvensler and will star Carsten Svendsen, Sicilia Gadborg Høegh, Jesper Lundgaard, Cecilie Stenspil, Maria Lucia Heiberg Rosenberg, Kristian Rossen, Troels Malling, Lars Arvad, Mathias Hartmann Niclasen, Nicoline Siff Møller, Nadin Reiness, and Emilie Groth Christensen. Edward af Sillén directs.

Performance Dates: Nov. 18-Dec. 28, 2023

“Den grimme ælling” will be performed.
