Kangmin Justin Kim Wins Major Award from The Dallas Opera

Countertenor Kangmin Justin Kim has been honored as the 2023 “Maria Callas Debut Artist of the Year” by The Dallas Opera.

The countertenor was recognized for his portrayal of Hansel in Humperdinck’s “Hansel and Gretel.”

Chosen exclusively by Dallas Opera subscribers, this annual award recognizes an outstanding company debut by a single performer.

Born in South Korea and raised in Chicago, Kim pursued studies in voice, opera, and musical theater at Northwestern University and the Royal Academy of Music in London. In the summer of 2022, he garnered critical acclaim for originating the role of Song Liling in the world premiere of “M. Butterfly” at the Santa Fe Opera.

Kim’s performance in “Hansel and Gretel” will be available to view on thedallasopera.tv for free until July 31.
