Julie Nesrallah Headlines Orchestre Classique de Montreal’s Concert Staging of ‘Carmen’

By Logan Martell

On March 8, 2022, the Orchestre classique de Montreal will present a concert staging of Bizet’s “Carmen.”

Held at the Pierre-Mercure Hall, the production will feature Julie Nesrallah in the title role, joined by Ernesto Ramirez as Don Jose, Suzanne Taffot as Micaëla, and Hugo Laporte as Escamillo. Centaur Theatre’s artistic director Eda Holmes will direct, with Boris Brott conducting.

Known for her interpretation of the role, Nesrallah performs with opera companies, festivals, and orchestras through North America and around the world. She is also the host of CBC Radio’s “Tempo” and CBC Television’s “Solo.”

Each concert in OCM’s 82nd season, titled “Women of Distinction,” will pay tribute to women from outside the world of the performing arts. This concert will open with a tribute to Moroccan-born Quebecoise Daniele Henkel, whose accomplishments lie in business and politics.

The concert will perform again on the following night, March 9.
