Julia Bullock, Lise Davidsen, Joyce DiDonato, Ailyn Pérez, Will Liverman Headline Metropolitan Opera’s 2023-24 season

New Productions
Joyce DiDonato, Ryan McKinny, Latonia Moore, and Susan Graham star in the Met premiere of Ivan van Hove production of Jake Heggie’s “Dead Man Walking.” Met Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts. Steven Osgood will make his Met debut conducting for two performances.

Anthony Davis’ “X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X,” directed by Robert O’Hara, makes its Met premiere with Will Liverman as Malcolm X, Leah Hawkins as Louise and Malcolm’s wife Betty Shabazz, Kazem Abdullah conducts.
Performance Dates: Nov. 3-Dec. 2, 2023
Ailyn Perez leads Catán’s “Florencia en el Amazonas” in its Met Premiere. Met Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts this Spanish-language opera by the Mexican composer Daniel Catán. The cast also stars Gabriella Reyes, Nancy Fabiola Herrera, and Mario Chang.

Aigul Akhmetshina and Clémentine Margaine star in the title role of “Carmen,” with co-stars Piotr Beczała, Michael Fabiano, Kyle Ketelsen, Ryan Speedo Green, Ailyn Pérez, and Angel Blue leading a new production by Carrie Cracknell. Daniele Rustioni & Diego Matheuz conduct.

Verdi’s “La Forza del Destino” stars Lise Davidsen, Brian Jagde, and Igor Golovatenko in this Mariusz Treliński production, co-produced with Teatr Wielki-Polish National Opera. Met Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts.

The Met premiere of John Adams’ “El Niño” stars Julia Bullock and Davóne Tines, with J’Nai Bridges, Daniela Mack, Key’mon W. Murrah, and Siman Chung in this Lileana Blain-Cruz production. Marin Alsop conducts.

Verdi’s “Requiem” will star Leah Hawkins, Karen Cargill, Dmitry Belosselskiy, and Matthew Polenzani. Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts.

Federica Lombardi, Anita Hartig, Olga Kulchynska, Heidi Stober, Kristina Mkhitaryan, Stephen Costello, Joseph Calleja, Matthew Polenzani, and Adam Plachetka, and Alexey Markov star in Franco Zeffirelli’s magical production of Puccini’s “La Bohème.” Maestros Carlo Rizzi and Marco Armiliato conduct.

“The Magic Flute” will be presented in Julie Taymor’s production with Janai Brugger and Liv Redpath as Pamina. Kathryn Lewek, Jeni Houser Piotr Buszewski, Joshua Blue, Rolando Villazón, Alexander Birch Elliott, Patrick Carfizzi, William Guanbo Su, Brindley Sherratt, and James Cresswell round out the cast.

For “Madama Butterfly,” audiences will see Aleksandra Kurzak, Eleonora Buratto, and Asmik Grigorian alternating as Cio-Cio San. Elizabeth DeShong, Eve Gigliotti, Jonathan Tetelman, Matthew Polenzani, Davide Luciano, and Lucas Meachem round out the two casts. Xian Zhang and Derrick Inouye share conducting duties.

“Turandot” will be conducted by Oksana Lynic and Marco Armiliato with Elena Pankratova and Christine Goerke sharing the title role. Aleksandra Kurzak, Gabriella Reyes, Olga Kulchynska, and another singer TBA will perform the role of Liù while Roberto Alagna and SeokJong Baek alternate as Calaf.

For “Roméo et Juliette,” audiences will see Benjamin Bernheim, Nadine Sierra, Samantha Hankey, Frederick Ballentine, Will Liverman, and Alfred Walker. Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts.

Closing out the Metropolitan Opera season will be “Orfeo ed Euridice” with Elena Villalón, Anthony Roth Costanzo, and Ying Fang. Christian Curnyn conducts.
