Juilliard Opera to Present Missy Mazzoli’s ‘Proving Up’

Juilliard Opera is set to present Missy Mazzoli’s “Proving Up” on Feb. 15, 2023.

The opera, which was written by Royce Vavrek, will be conducted by Steven Osgood and directed by Mary Birnbaum. The work will feature singers from the Ellen and James S. Marcus Institute for Vocal Arts and members the Juilliard Orchestra.

There will be additional performances on Feb. 17 and 19, including a live stream of the final performance.

“Proving Up” had its world premiere in 2018 at the Washington National Opera. Since then, it has been performed at such organizations as the Philharmonic Society of Orange County, Opera Omaha, Oberlin College, the International Contemporary Ensemble, Aspen Music Festival, Ad Astra Music Festival, Pasadena Opera, University of Michigan, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and Opera Las Vegas.
