The Wiener Staatsoper has announced that tenor Juan Diego Flórez will sing the role of Nemorino in Donizetti’s “L’Elisir d’Amore” on Sept. 21, 2020.

The tenor will replace Liparit Avetisyan, who is ill, in the final performance of the run.

Flórez is the latest artist in a series of cast changes at the Wiener Staatsoper, brought on by a COVID-19 outbreak at the opera house.

The performance on Sept. 21 will reunite Pretty Yende and Flórez, who have performed together at the Metropolitan Opera in “Le Comte Ory” and at the Rossini Opera Festival in “Ricciardo e Zoraide.”

“L’Elisir d’Amore” also stars Clemens Unterreiner as Belcore and Nicola Alaimo in the role of Doctor Dulcamara. Bertrand de Billy will conduct the production by Otto Schenk.
