Juan Diego Flórez, Eleonora Buratto & Julie Fuchs Lead Rossini Opera Festival’s 2022 Season

The Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Italy has announced its 43rd season which will take place between August 9 and 21, 2022 and will feature two new productions.

The Festival will be inaugurated at the Vitrifrigo Arena with “Le Comte Ory” conducted by Diego Matheuz with the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai and the Chorus of the Teatro Ventidio Basso. Hugo De Ana will direct the new production headed by Juan Diego Flórez, Nahuel Di Pierro, Maria Kataeva, Andrzej Filonczyk, Julie Fuchs, Monica Bacelli, and Anna-Doris Capitelli.

Performance Dates: August 9-19, 2022

The Teatro Rossini will see the revival of “La Gazzetta” with Carlo Rizzi conducting the Orchestra Sinfonica G. Rossini and the Chorus of the Teatro della Fortuna. The cast of singers includes Carlo Lepore, Maria Grazia Schiavo, Giorgio Caoduro, Martiniana Antonie, Alejandro Baliñas, Pietro Adaíni, Andrea Niño, and Pablo Gálvez.

Performance Dates: August 10-18, 2022

The festival will present “Otello” at the Vitrifrigo Arena. Yves Abel conducts the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai and the Chorus of the Teatro Ventidio Basso in a production by by Rosetta Cucchi. The cast includes Enea Scala, Eleonora Buratto, Evgeny Stavinsky, Dmitry Korchak, Antonino Siragusa, Adriana Di Paola, Julian Henao, and Antonio Garés.

Performance Dates: August 11-20, 2022

The 34th Accademia Rossiniana “Alberto Zedda” begins on July 4 at the Teatro Sperimentale with the usual Final Concert. Furthermore, the pupils will form the cast in performances at the Teatro Rossini, of Emilio Sagi’s production of “Il viaggio a Reims.” Daniel Carter conducts the Filarmonica Gioachino Rossini.

Performance Dates: August 13 and 15, 2022

The busy program of concerts will include six evenings at the Teatro Rossini, opens with four Concerti lirico-sinfonici: on August 12, Lorenzo Passerini will conduct the Filarmonica Gioachino Rossini with the bass-baritone Luca Pisaroni; on August 14, Vitali Alekseenok will conduct the Orchestra Sinfonica G. Rossini, the soprano Jessica Pratt and the mezzosoprano Varduhi Abrahamyan; on August 17, Fabrizio Ruggero will conduct the Filarmonica G. Rossini and the Chorus of the Teatro della Fortuna, with the bass Nahuel Di Pierro; on August 18, Daniel Smith will conduct the Filarmonica Gioachino Rossini, the Chorus of the Teatro Ventidio Basso with the tenor Michael Spyres.  There will be two Concerti di Belcanto: the singers are Sonia Prina on August 16 and Barbara Frittoli on August 20.

Rossinimania will also come back to the Festival: on August 19, the Teatro Rossini will see the production of “Il sogno dell’orso,” a musical entertainment devised by Sergio Ragni, involving Matteo Anselmi and the singers Andrea Niño, Valery Makarov and Giorgi Manoshvili. Rubén Sánchez Vieco will accompany at the piano.

The ROF 2022 will close on August 21 at the Vitrifrigo Arena with “Tra rondò e tournedos,” a Gala celebrating the 40 years of Pier Luigi Pizzi at the ROF.  The performance, a production devised and staged by Pizzi himself, will be conducted by Diego Matheuz with the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai and the Chorus of the Teatro Ventidio Basso. Soloists will include Vasilisa Berzhanskaya, Eleonora Buratto, Maria Laura Iacobellis, Aya Wakizono, Giorgio Caoduro, Nahuel Di Pierro, Dmitry Korchak, Giorgi Manoshvili, and Matteo Roma.
