Juan Diego Flórez Announces New Verdi Album

By Francisco Salazar

Juan Diego Flórez has announced a new Verdi album.

The recording is set for release on Oct. 25, 2019 and will be dedicated entirely to Verdi with arias from “Rigoletto,” “La Traviata,” “Oberto, Conte Di San Bonifacio,” “Attila,” “I Lombardi Alla Prima Crociata,” “I Due Foscari,” “Les Vepres Siciliennes,” and “Ernani.”

Flórez will be accompanied The Milan Symophony Orchestra under the direction of Jader Bignamini.

This will mark Flórez’s third album for Sony Classical with which he has released a Mozart album and “Bésame Mucho.”

The choice of an album dedicated to the Italian composer is a unique one, especially since the tenor has never been associated with that repertory. Flórez has sung three Verdi roles on stage in his career. In his early years he did Fenton in “Falstaff” at the Teatro alla Scala under Riccardo Muti and debuted Alfredo in “La Traviata” at the Metropolitan Opera. He has also performed the Duke in “Rigoletto” in Dresden and Vienna.
