The Opéra National Du Rhin in France has announced that soprano Joyce El-Khoury’s recital has been canceled due to ongoing COVID-19 concerns and the current lockdown in France.

The recital was set to be held on March 26 and El-Khoury was supposed to present a mix of classic, traditional and Lebanese music.

The French government imposed a hard lockdown in France at the end of October 2020, due to the soaring COVID-19 cases. The government’s spokesman Gabriel Attal hinted that authorities are preparing plans to possibly ease restrictions in mid-April 2021.

El-Khoury recently performed the role of Anna in Puccini’s opera “Le Villi” at Opéra de Limoges, the title role in Gluck’s “Iphigénie en Tauride” at the Staatsoper Stuttgart, and the role of Liù in “Turandot” at the Canadian Opera Company, among others.

The soprano is scheduled to return to the stage for a run of Bizet’s “Les pêcheurs de perles” at the Dallas Opera in April 2022.
