By David Salazar

The Gramophone Awards have been announced and the top Opera recording for 2018 goes to Erato’s release of Berlioz’s “Les Troyens.”

The recording is led by John Nelson, one of the great Berlioz conductors of the 20th and 21st century. His cast includes Michael Spyres, Marie-Nicole Lemieux, and Joyce DiDonato.

Contralto Delphine Galou’s album “Agitata” took home the best recital album award, while Marianne Crebassa and Fazil Say’s “Secrets,” also released by Erato, was the choice to top the Solo Vocal category.

These three recordings, along with the numerous other winners in instrumental and orchestral categories will compete for the Recording of the Year Award on Sept. 13, 2018 in an awards ceremony at the De Vere Gran Connaught Rooms in Covent Garden. There will also be five additional award presented at that event.
